Andean Movies for Andean communities – The movies of Jorge Sanjinés in Cuzco communities.

The project consists of movies exhibition from Bolivian creator Jorge Sanjines, whose movies get to the heart of the Andean communities.

An ongoing visit to diverse communities of Cuzco and Apurimac is currently happening, 12 in total, this allows for a connection between the peasant communities and the movies, in their native language, Quechua. This has been a challenge as it implies translating 3 of Sanjines movies from their original language, Aymara and Spanish, to Quechua.

One of the objectives of the projects, other than presenting the movies in rural communities in the locations previously mentioned, was to create a documentary which would pick up the experience, and a complementary theoretical study from the perspective of visual anthropology.

The documentary was created by Walter Aparicio and carries the project’s name:
Películas Andinas para Pueblos Andinos. (Andean Movies for Andean communities).

For the creation of the project, the support of 15 individuals was needed, 5 of whom have been in charge of taking the movies to the rural communities in 5 visits, with duration of 3 to 5 days each.

Go to the “Exhibition” section for details of the movies in exhibitions.
